FAQ

  • What is a crashpad?
    • Airline pilots and flight attendants can live anywhere they want, as long as they can get to their base airport before the first flight of their trip. That often means commuting into base the day before a trip or staying a night after it. The airline pays for hotels during the trip, but usually not the nights before or after. That is where a crashpad comes in: a house or apartment near the airport, shared by crew for short stays, with each person sleeping in a hot bed or a cold bed.
  • What is a cold bed?
    • A cold bed belongs to you for the length of your agreement. No one else sleeps in it. Every bed at DFW Crashpads is a cold bed.
  • What is a hot bed?
    • A hot bed is shared. It is usually first come, first served, so you might get a different bed each time you stay. We do not do hot beds.
  • Are crashpads legal?
    • Yes, in most places. Owners sometimes run into health code or local ordinance problems tied to cleanliness, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, or parking.
  • Do I bring my own bedding?
    • No. Linens are provided: 2 pillows, sheets, a blanket, and a towel. Your bed is made up before you arrive.
  • What about food?
    • You get your own pantry space and room in the refrigerator, plus a full kitchen. Grocery stores are within walking distance.
  • Who cleans the house?
    • A professional cleaning service cleans the kitchen, bathrooms, and living areas every week. You clean up your own messes in between, including your dishes, spills, and crumbs.
  • How far is the crashpad from the airport?
    • 7.5 miles. If you have an employee parking pass, drive and park at the South Employee lot. If you use a rideshare, go to and from the Rental Car Center, which is usually the cheapest option because it avoids the airport toll charges. Free shuttles run to the terminals from both.
  • How long is the agreement?
    • One-month minimum, then month to month. Rent is due on the 1st. A mid-month move-in can sometimes be prorated; ask when you apply.
  • How is laundry handled?
    • The washer and dryer are free and first come, first served. Bring your own detergent. An iron and ironing board are provided.
  • Can I smoke?
    • The house is non-smoking. You can smoke in the backyard, but please do not leave butts on the ground.
